The new POROMETRIC high-tech filtration mesh

Highly efficient filtration
of water, oil, gas, polymers and more

POROMETRIC is the new filtration mesh from GKD. It has the world’s highest flow rate in combination with a high dirt holding capacity and offers many further benefits.

High permeability • Best filtration performance
• Best cleanability

Benefits for filtration

The 3D structure of the filtration mesh results in a larger filtration area, and thereby also increased permeability.

  • High permeability: The improved permeability of the wire mesh reduces the loss of pressure and secures the highest possible flow rate thanks to its greater flow capacity per unit area.
  • Excellent cleanability: In contrast with depth filters, POROMETRIC is a surface filter – with slot-shaped pore geometry. Complete removal of the filter cake guarantees optimum regenerability of the filtration mesh.
  • High dirt holding capacity: The 3D structure of the metal mesh not only increases filtration performance, but also means that fewer cleaning cycles are required.
  • Low energy input: Reduced pressure loss means that required pumping power is reduced.

The optimized filtration performance of POROMETRIC has been demonstrated in various field tests.

POROMETRIC can be used in virtually all sectors. The benefits of the premium filtration mesh are not only provided when filtering water, ballast water (sea water), polymers, or gas. POROMETRIC is the new benchmark in terms of filtration.

Improvements over conventional plain dutch weave

To date, optimized dutch weave from GKD has been the benchmark for many filtration applications. A further development such as POROMETRIC is unparalleled in the market.

The filtration mesh materials

POROMETRIC is fundamentally a metal mesh/wire mesh. Depending on the application, plastics can also be interwoven. An overview of the materials:

  • Stainless steel 1.4301, 1.4304/AISI 304, AISI 304 L
  • Stainless steel 1.4401, 1.4404/ AISI 316, AISI 316 L
  • Super duplex (saltwater-proof material)
  • Hybrid version (combination of several materials)

Processing options

Beside the wide range of applications, the mesh also offers diverse  processing options:

  • Clamping
  • Bonding
  • Soldering
  • Welding
  • Seaming
  • Plasma and laser cutting
  • Flanging
  • Coating
  • Annealing

POROMETRIC filtration mesh in research projects

For example, the newly developed filtration mesh is currently   an important component of the RAU research project. The project of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research focuses on the environmental burden associated with microplastics from tire abrasion. Here, POROMETRIC is used in the filter baskets designed and constructed by GKD to sample the water that is washed into the storm sewer. Washed-up particles of road dirt are already sorted into individual size classes in the basket – via metallic mesh filter stages arranged one after the other. The finest filter stage employs POROMETRIC filtration mesh.
