Parking garage façade made of spiral wire mesh: New World Symphony, Miami
New World Symphony
Helix 12 spiral mesh, a GKD special mesh with round wires as a mesh façade on the parking garage of the New World Symphony, the renowned concert hall in Miami Beach, USA, designed by architect Frank Gehry.
The almost 2,500 m² façade of the parking garage, consisting of 49 wire mesh panels in total, is illuminated in color by ground-mounted LED luminaires and functions as both a semitransparent eyecatcher and a multifunctional building shell. The mesh façade serves as fall guard protection and weather protection. It can withstand hurricanes and – thanks to the high-alloy stainless steel wire mesh – the salty air that the parking garage is subjected to being so close to the ocean. The open structure of the non-combustible spiral mesh also provides natural ventilation for the building. Hydrant openings integrated into the fabric with welded-in cover plates allow fast access when required.
The special spiral wire mesh was woven in accordance with the specifications defined in the project especially for its many and varied applications.
